One Word Prompt.

Good evening, artists, Angela here.  Sorry for the late post tonight.  These beautiful summer days keep me busy with morning walks, picnics in the park, afternoon naps, and evening playtime with good friends.

This week's challenge could be a tough one.  We are going to do a one word prompt...but there's a little twist.  The other day I came across this Random Word Generator.  I want you to click on the link above, choose your settings, and hit the "new word" button for your one word prompt.

Here are the rules:

You may use/interpret the word any way you choose.
You have to try and use the first word it gives you (it's more fun that way).
Use at least one photo and journaling.
Be sure to share the word when you link us up to your layout.
Oh, and have fun ;)

--Now for some inspiration--

This week you are playing for the following prizes:

First place wins a $10 gift card to Two Sisters Designs and Gina Miller Designs.
And two runners-up will win either a $10 gift card to Paislee Press or a $10 gift card to Kate Hadfield Designs.
All three win the iHope benefit collab by Two Sisters Designs, Emily Merritt, Gina Miller, Rachel Young, Jacque Larsen, Paislee Press, and Amber Clegg.

Thanks for checking in this week, and I can not wait to see your art!

Show your {emotion}

Hey scrappers! Traci here with this week's Hodge Podge challenge.

There is usually a time in my life where my emotions are so intense that I feel a need to really journal about them.  Normally I internalize (which my dear friend Kerstin accuses me of all the time...) but recently I've had some emotions that really needed to come out and this challenge was the perfect way to get that done.

This week we're playing for gift cards to Emily's, Holly's, Jacque's and my stores!

Traci's emotion
May2009-derek2

journaling: what do you do when the system fails? what do you do when the ones who are supposed to be helping you drop the ball? How do 3 adults not see how he got a black eye? how did they miss him being shoved down by a bigger kid? how can an adult take a child who needs them so desperately and whose parents have placed their “world” in their hands treat a child with such disdain? how do you slap and shake a child? how do the witnesses not intervene? how does no one tell you your child may have been the victim of abuse? how does the system not notify a parent for 6 weeks that this incident occurred and that they interviewed your non-verbal child?
and how do you deal with the anger? i picture your sweet face at school being ignored and pushed around by the bigger kids with emotional issues. and I get so angry. angry that the people I was supposed to entrust you with took their responsibility so lightly. so now you’ve been moved, we’ll start fresh in two days at a new school. one where you will hopefully learn to come home and be able to tell me what happened during the day and hopefully one where you will be happy and thrive and get everything your little self needs to catch you up and not hold you back, hurt you, hold you down. and hopefully i can release this anger in my heart, this hate for someone who had so little regard, and release myself from the vengeful thoughts and daydreams so that i can wholly dedicate myself to your new venture.

{Celebration of Memories}

Hi fellow scrappers!  Rachel here with a new challenge.  I hope you're all enjoying beautiful spring weather (andautumn weather for our friends WAAAY down south).  Since Memorial Day (in the US) is almost upon us, I'd like us to take a look at someone you remember.  It could be someone who has passed away that was important to you, a lost friend/friendship, or a lost pet.  Just scrap someone you miss. Someone who's leaving changed you in some way. Scrap your best memory or your favorite thing about them. Make it a celebration of that person/pet and what they meant to you!
Here's some inspiration to help get you started!

Me:
RYoung_Vanamaddie copy

Journaling:
I love this picture because it shows Vana doing what
she does best. She is an amazing Grandma and
an inspirational mother. I am forever a changed
person for her life having touched mine. I feel
so blessed to have found the man of my dreams, and
also to have known the woman that shaped him into
who he is before I knew he was what I was looking
for. Thank you, Vana. Thank you for showing me
such an example of motherhood, of love, and of life.
I love you. I miss you. I look forward to the day
I will see you again.

Quoted!

HI everyone, Kate here with a new challenge for you, all about words!

QUOTE IT
My challenge is to include a quotation as a prominent part of your page design, maybe as the title or heavily featured in the journaling. Or you could go to town and create your own wordart or patterned paper using your chosen wording. The phrase you choose could be a great piece of advice that was shared with you, a meaningful quote from a poem or song lyrics or even part of a wedding vow. Or it could simply be a child's funny saying that you want to remember!

This week's grand prize winner will receive a $10 gift coupon to my store and $10 gift coupon to Gina Miller's store. Two other winners will receive a $10 gift coupon to Traci Murphy's store or Two Sisters' store.

pictures + typography | reminder

Hi guys!  It's Liz again, just popping in to remind you that you've got one more week to submit your layout for the pictures + typography challenge.  Need a little inspiration?  Here is our last winner's take on the challenge:

by Jessica

Live-in-the-moment-web

Here's the challenge details:

This week's challenge focuses on two of my favorite elements: pictures + typography. Your words can be such an unforgettable piece to your project.  They are almost as important to a scrapbook page as your photo.  This challenge is to motivate and inspire your typography skills - and get you thinking outside of the box regarding your titles and journaling. I want you to write on your photo(s) - yes ON your pictures!! Let's see how creative you can get with your pictures + typography.

Post your layout link in LAST WEEK's blog post.  Happy hodge-podging!

Happy Hodge Podge Monday!!  It's Liz here with a new challenge to kick off the month of April.

This week's challenge focuses on two of my favorite elements: pictures + typography. (an extra special thanks to Crissy for helping me draft the challenge description - thanks girl!!)

Here are some ideas that from Crissy:
type your text over photos in journaling style
use yoru text to clip out areas into the photo(s)
play with blending modes on photos and text
chunky words/text used as a clipping mask for photos

Have you heard about microblogging?

Here's an excerpt from Cathy's post: "Both Twitter and Facebook ask you the same question: What are you doing? In turn, you answer, and document a bit about you and your daily life. This class is going to encourage you to use either (or both) to improve your life observation skills. Then, you'll take that authentic content and create cool little digital pages in Photoshop Elements (or Photoshop). In the process, you'll learn how to work with templates, make good type choices and creatively pair photos you love with your words."

So get your hodge podge on and create a layout where you incorporate journaling from a microblogging site like Facebook or Twitter. You have until Sunday, April 5th to submit a layout in the comments section below.
